One of the last bands you think of when you hear a children’s choir is Kings of Leon. The band posted a video on YouTube of an inside look at their upcoming single “Radioactive” which has a slightly different sound than what we’ve come to expect from Kings of Leon. The new album, Come Around Sundown, comes out October 19th.

As WTTS prepares to spin another Album Side Saturday, comments to wttsfm.com show that your affection and nostalgia for those shiny black discs is strong. But, is it strong enough to last for all eternity? andvinyly.com offers to press your ashes into a vinyl record. What’s on the recording is up to you. Details beyond that feel pretty ghoulish.

Bluesman Biopic

It would not be the first film of John Belushi’s life, but it would be the first Belushi’s widow, Judith, supports, and is even participating in as the executive producer. In 1989, just seven years after Belushi’s overdose, the first film of the comedians life was released against the will of his family. Now, Todd Phillips, director of The Hangover and screenwriter of The Pursuit of Happiness, Steven Conrad are teaming up to produce a new biopic. Still no word on whether fellow comedian and House of Blues Radio Hour host Dan Aykroyd among other prominent figures from Belushi’s life will contribute.

Deadless Garcia Biopic

Comments Off 10 August 2010

Director Amir Bar-Lev is currently working on a biopic of Grateful Dead’s, Jerry Garcia. We guess the film will feature Garcia as a young, unknown guitarist, possibly how Grateful Dead was formed and the general music scene of the 60’s. But, there’s one thing it apparently WON’T feature. Grateful Dead Productions have made it very clear that they are in no way associated with the biopic and have also denied the film use of any music by Grateful Dead or Jerry Garcia as well as access to Garcia’s family members.

Robert Plant Talks Band of Joy

Robert Plant talking about his latest solo project. Band of Joy is actually a case of everything old is new again. Robert originally worked under that name from ’66 to ’68. John Bonham joined in ’67. A year later Jimmy Page came along looking for bandmates for a new Yardbirds. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Mitch Miller (1911-2010), Greatest Hits Albums (1958-Present)

Comments Off 04 August 2010

Mitch Miller has died at the age of 99. He was a big wheel in the record business for a lot of years and hosted the hugely successful Sing Along with Mitch TV show.

He also famously hated rock ‘n’ roll.

Still, Mitch Miller invented something that has benefited countless rock bands, especially The Eagles. In 1958 he put together a collection of songs Johnny Mathis had already recorded and the “Greatest Hits” record was born.

This year’s benefit for American farmers is scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd at Miller Park in Milwaukee. The web cast was light on further details of the event, short of confirming that the main headliners will be include Nelson and Mellencamp along with Neil Young and Dave Matthews.

Kings Of Leon Bombed

Oh, you only THINK dealing with his beak is the problem...

Of all the reasons a band has walked away from performing, pigeons may be the strangest. But that’s exactly the reason Kings of Leon walked offstage prematurely at the Verizon Amphitheater in St. Louis last week. Even after seeing the number the pigeons did to the group’s opening bands, The Postelles and The Stills, Kings of Leon decided it was too late to cancel the performance. After three songs of being bombed from above, however, the band apologetically ended the show early. Fortunately, there’s no reason to believe Kings of Leon will face similar aerial bombardment when they visit OUR Verizon Wireless Music Center on September 3rd.

Some New Slices of Apple for iTunes

Comments Off 21 July 2010

In addition to being home to The Beatles for the latter part of their history, Apple Records released albums from Badfinger, Billy Preston and James Taylor. Now, EMI plans to reissue 15 of those albums remastered for CD and digital download. That means you’ll be able to buy them from iTunes. Of course, that doesn’t mean The Beatles catalog is coming to iTunes because…well…who really knows?

The Weezer Color Wheel

Comments Off 20 July 2010

It was just last November that Weezer released their last album with radical attitude, titled Raditude. Now, they’ve set the date for their next album. September 13th we will receive the follow up to Raditude which includes a track with Ryan Adams. The only thing left to do the band says, is name the currently untitled CD. Rivers Cuomo suggested to NewsTimes.com that it could be called Heavy Metal as the release has a heavier rock sound than previous Weezer albums. Our biggest question is, what color can we expect this time?
