Wake Owl is the solo project of Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, British Columbia-based singer-songwriter Colyn Cameron. Born and raised in Southern California, Colyn started writing songs as a kid for his own hip hop projects.    It wasn’t until he picked up a guitar seven years ago, that he began to shift toward his current sound.  After studying organic agriculture at Emerson College in the United Kingdom and working at farms around the world, Colyn returned to Vancouver to focus on his songwriting career.  Wake Owl’s debut EP Wild Country is out January 29th.  Learn more about Colyn Cameron and Wake Owl at his Official Website, “Like” him on Facebook, and follow him on Twitter. From Seattle, Washington, Ben Gibbard is perhaps best known as the frontman for Death Cab For Cutie., half of The Postal Service, and as ¡All-Time Quarterback!. His latest solo effort, Former Lives, is his first full length release under his own name. Out this past October, the album is a showcase of Gibbard’s last eight years of songwriting.  He also plays almost all the instruments on the album.  Collaborators on Former Lives include ex-wife  Zooey Deschanel, drummer Jon Wurster, and singer-songwriter Aimee Mann who is featured in this week’s download “Bigger Than Love.” We are no longer able to offer a download of “Bigger Than Love,” but still enjoy the video below!

From Nashville by way of Colorado Springs, Night Beds is the solo project of 23-year-old singer/songwriter Winston Yellen.  Recording under the moniker since 2006, Yellen had released three EPs prior to signing with Bloomington, Indiana-based Dead Oceans in 2012.  His ten track full length debut, Country Sleep, is scheduled for release February 5th. A regular of the Seattle music scene since 2004, singer/songwriter Josh Tillman first gained national attention in 2008 as the drummer of indie folk band Fleet Foxes.  Though he recorded and toured the group, he also performed as a solo artist under the moniker J. Tillman. After leaving Fleet Foxes in early 2012, he adopted the name Father John Misty and re-focused his career as a solo musician.
