Kevin Morby moved from New York to Los Angeles in 2014 and instantly received a gift. The previous tenet had left behind an upright piano with a few sheets of music, including an introductory book of common chords. This was perfect since Morby was a beginner on the instrument and had always wanted to learn how to play. Quickly he picked up the basics and began composing the songs that would form his third studio album, Singing Saw. When video of Eric Garner’s death surfaced, Morby became distraught. This was another example of a thoughtless killing in our society that overwhelms our past and present. Morby knew he had to voice his opposition and penned “I Have Been To The Mountain” in dedication of Garner. Free Download Of The Week: The Record Company

If John Lee Hooker and The Stooges had a well-behaved love child it would be The Record Company. The trio from California met through a love of old vinyl records. Guitarist and lead vocalist Chris Vos moved to Los Angeles in 2010 to pursue a full time career in music. After jamming around the city, he met bassist Alex Stiff and would go over to his house to listen to music. There he met drummer Marc Cazorla. Immediately it was obvious they all enjoyed the same music and after a night listening to John Lee Hooker’s Hooker N’ Heat they knew they had to jam. Listening back to that jam session the three decided to start a band. Big Pink

Since 2013, British electro-rock duo The Big Pink has grown into a quartet. Founding member Milo Cordell left the band for a brief period of time to focus on his record label Merok. This left the band in Robbie Furze hands and he decided to add Jesse Russell, Free Hallas, and Mary Charteris to the group.  Recently, they released their highly anticipated Empire Underground (EP), with a full-length album release set for late 2016. Download “Decoy” off Empire Underground (EP) and learn more about The Big Pink at their Official Website, “Like” them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
