White Denim

Going into their sixth album Stiff, White Denim’s vocalist/guitarist James Petralli and bassist Steve Terebecki spent a long time reflecting on what the White Denim meant to them. They were starting a new chapter in the bands life because drummer Joshua Block and guitarist Austin Jenkins had left. So they recruited guitarist Jonathan Horne and drummer Jeffrey Olson to go into the studio with legendary producer Ethan Johns (Paul McCartney, Laura Marling, The Staves). For 20 days they recorded everything live but always came back to their original question. “We thought, what’s the fundamental thing that made us want to get into a van and quit our terrible jobs and start this whole thing in the first place?” Petralli said. “And it was loud, fastplaying, rock and roll.” Download “Ha Ha Ha Ha (Yeah)” off Stiff and learn more about White Denim at their Official Website, “Like” them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

M. Ward

Indie Rock veteran M. Ward is back with his eighth studio album More Rain. The follow up to 2012’s A Wasteland Companion is an introspective release where Ward takes a look at the world around him. “I think one of the biggest mysteries of America right now is how are we able to process unending bad news on Page One and then go about our lives the way the style section portrays us?” says Ward. Starting out as a doo-wop record, the project took a different turn when collaborators R.E.M.’s Peter Buck, Neko Case, and k.d. lang came aboard. The end result is a collection of upbeat songs that will grab new listeners and be refreshing to his longtime fans. Download “Confession” off More Rain and learn more about M. Ward at his Official Website, “Like” him on Facebook, and follow him on Twitter.

Lake Street Dive

Lake Street Dive started at the New England Conservatory of Music while each member was a students studying Jazz. After realizing their love of music spread multiple genres, the group was formed on a part time basis. It wasn’t until T. Bone Burnett discovered the band’s viral cover of The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” that they became full time. Their debut album on Nonesuch Records, Side Pony refers to a unique hairstyle of the 1980’s. However, the group uses the term as a metaphor to be themselves. Just like the unwavering self confidence needed to pull off a side pony, the band uses their confidence to create their dance party music which incorporates elements of R&B, Pop, ’60s-era Rock and Soul. Thao & The Get Down Stay Down

Thao & The Get Down Stay Down

San Francisco based Thao & The Get Down Stay Down are releasing their sixth studio album, A Man Alive this Friday (3/4). Along with the help of producer Merrill Garbus (tUnE-yArDs), the band combined different musical genres with Thao’s raw vocals to create fearless music. Lyrically, Thao opens up about her demons which stem from her fathers abandonment early in life. Almost every song references their nonexistent relationship in an attempt to find inner peace. The combination of music and lyrics results in the bands most powerful release to date. Download “Nobody Dies” off A Man Alive and learn more about Thao & The Get Down Stay Down at their Official Website, “Like” them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
