Kitty Davis & Lewis

Siblings Kitty, Daisy & Lewis were brought up in a household were music was passed down from generation to generation.  Their mother was the drummer of The Raincoats and their father is an engineer at one of London’s top recording studios, The Exchange.  This lead to the trio having a wide knowledge of music and each member being able to play multiple instruments.  Their latest record, Kitty, Daisy & Lewis The Third was written over three years as the band converted an Indian restaurant into a studio.  “With the songwriting, we’ve grown up a lot since the last album, in terms of experiences and different relationships,” Kitty explained during an interview with Interview Magazine. “The songs are a lot more personal to us.” Download “Whenever You See Me” from Kitty, Daisy & Lewis The Third and learn more about Kitty Daisy & Lewis at their Official Website, “Like” them on Facebook, and follow them on Twitter.

Courtney Barnett uses stream of conciseness to convey some of the most mundane aspects of life.  From getting organic vegetables, to swimming laps at the local pool Barnett’s debut album, Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit has it all.  What separates the Australian native from a person babbling is her uncanny ability to paint a vivid picture, only to leave it in the dust for a trail of thoughts.  Download “Pedestrian At Best” from Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit and learn more about Courtney Barnett at her Official Website, “Like” her on Facebook, and follow her on Twitter.

Sufjan Stevens

Sufjan Stevens’ seventh studio album, Carrie & Lowell, was inspired by the death of his mother, Carrie in 2012.  From age five to eight Sufjan visited his mother and new husband, Lowell in Oregon during his summer vacations.  Since his mother suffered from depression, schizophrenia, and alcoholism their contact was sparse, and these trips to Oregon turned out to be some of his only memories of her.  Commenting on the record Sufjan said, “It’s not really trying to say anything new, or prove anything, or innovate. It feels artless, which is a good thing. This is not my art project; this is my life.” Download “Should Have Known Better” from Carrie & Lowell and learn more about Sufjan Stevens at his Official Website.  Purchase tickets to Stevens’ show at Old National Centre this Saturday here.
