San Diego’s Bad & The Ugly was started by singer songwriter Nate Hess. Surrounding himself with four like minded musicians, their music incorporates haunting melodies and honest lyrics. Their ambitious touring schedule, along with the release of two Ep’s (Skin and Bones and Slept In The Pages) has the band picking up steam. Legendary musician Dion is set to release a new album, New York Is My Home in February. The title track is a duet with another famous New Yorker, Paul Simon but originally the song was to be sung solo. Soon after writing it though, Dion realized it was missing something and thought Simon would get this. He sent what he had to him and asked if he wanted to come aboard. A few days later Simon called saying he had become obsessed with the tune. “He added his own distinct touches to the production,” Dion stated. “He’s from Queens; I’m from the Bronx. We’re both at home in New York.” Download the title track to New York Is My Home and learn more about Dion at his Official Website and “Like” him on Facebook.

Earning the reputation of being a songwriter’s songwriter, Maia Sharp has had a successful music career that spans over 20 years. Listening to her 7th studio album, Dash Between The Dates one hears the effortless song writing that has defined Sharp’s career. However, the album was written during a period of creative crisis, where she felt a disconnect with the world. “I just hit this patch where nothing was moving me, and the ideas that kept me excited weren’t flowing as freely as they had,” Sharp explains. “In 20 years of writing professionally, I had never been in a hole like that. So all I could do was write my way out of it.” Eventually the creative wheels began to spin and Sharp released one of her best albums to date. Multiple Grammy winner Rickie Lee Jones released her 16th album, The Other Side of Desire this past June. Her first album in three years came after a move from Los Angles to New Orleans, because L.A. had grown lonely and stale. “The moment I got here, I felt naked,” Jones said. “I felt reduced down to the lowest possible denominator, which is where you have to be to start again.” It didn’t take long for the city to grab hold of her. The music she heard and people she met rushed life into her creative spirit. She also had to deal with the loss of prestige. No longer could she introduce herself to any musician with instant recognition.
