Free Download Of The Week: The Bamboos

Bamboos BIG
Melbourne-based, nine-piece The Bamboos are the brainchild of band leader Lance Ferguson. Originally formed in 2001, the group draws heavy inspiration from the instrumental raw funk of the late ’60s and early ’70s. Their latest effort, Fever In The Road, is the group’s sixth studio release. Co-produced by Ferguson and noted multi-instrumentalist and studio wizard John Castle, the album’s sound is densely multi-layered and features tracks that range from anthemic to dreamy and psychedelic to darkly fragile. Sean Rowe by Anthony Saint James

Sean Rowe’s latest effort Madman is a far cry from his previous release on Anti- Records, The Salesman And The Shark. While Salesman was a more polished album recorded in Los Angeles with West Coast session players, Madman is a stripped down and more emotional effort recorded in Rowe’s native upstate New York. “I wanted to go right to the heart with this,” he explains. “And sometimes that meant seeing how much we could remove. It helps to have a great recording. But I would rather have great performances and that’s what I was after here. Sometimes when you’re listening to a piece of music you don’t have to think about it, you just feel it. It’s primal and you trust it.” Download the title track to Madman and learn more about Sean Rowe at his Official Website, “Like” him on Facebook, and follow him on Twitter.

Fink

Fin Greenall (center) with bandmates Tim Thornton and Guy Whittaker

Fink is the moniker of Brighton-based singer-songwriter Fin Greenall as well as his touring band. Since 2006, the trio have released five studio albums, including their most recent, Hard Believer, earlier this year.  Their latest effort started with jam sessions in London, Amsterdam, L.A., and Brighton and ended with 17 intense, but enjoyable days mainlining coffee at Sound Factory studios in Los Angeles. The result is something that to their ears “sounds pretty damn good.” Download “Looking Too Closely” from Hard Beleiver and learn more about Fink at their Official Website, “Like” them on Facebook, and follow them on Twitter.
