“I think a lot of my favorite artists have always done stuff like that,” Deer Tick front man John McCauley says from his home in Nashville, reflecting on his band’s love of unexpected mashups: tender lyrics layered over pi**ed off guitars; classical music flourishes delivered nearly naked and high. Deer Tick’s perfected it all, mostly as an outlier, revered by a legion of fans, respected by peers, but not part of any one scene. With their highly anticipated new project(s), two new albums released simultaneously titled Deer Tick Vol. 1 and Deer Tick Vol. 2, the crew from Rhode Island prove that their punk-roots rock has only gotten better with age. Download “Jumpstarting” off Deer Tick vol. 2 any time between August 14th, and August 20th and learn more about Deer Tick at their Official Website, “Like” them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

All year round, it’s still summer. And indie rocker Matt Pond’s adventure continues. The brakes are shot, the pickup truck is rusted through and overheating. Everyone is out of their minds. “It’s not about reliving the past,” says Pond of the new album which features Laura Stevenson, Laura Burhenn, Caroline Reese and Anya Marina along with copilots, Chris Hansen, Shawn Alpay, Mel Guerison and Kyle Kelly-Yahner, “It’s about allowing the present to breathe. It’s about holding hands with ghosts and then letting go.” Download “Still Summer” off Still Summer any time between August 7th, and August 13th and learn more about matt pond PA at their Official Website, “Like” them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
This year, 92-3 WTTS turned 25! It was 1992 when WTTS launched a different kind of radio station. “World Class Rock” was on the air. Now, 25 years later, we’re still independently owned and still at it. After spending 25 days during July and August on the air reliving the sounds and memories that define our history, we wrapped up the celebration with a packed performance with Portugal. The Man at HI-FI. Dream Chief opened the evening, making this invite-only show a night to remember. Portugal. The Man spent minimal time between their jam-packed set list, and it made for one continuous dance party in the name of WTTS. The show opened with a short cover of Metallica’s “For Whom The Bell Tolls”, and closed with a beautiful sing-along cover of Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back In Anger.” All of the band’s original music spanned their entire career to give WTTS listeners an impressively complete and incredible night of music from Portugal. The Man. Check back for more photos to re-live this amazing celebration of 25 years of 92-3 WTTS. (Photos: Xavier Brinkley)
