Singer-songwriter/vocalist Ben Gibbard and producer/arranger Jimmy Tamborello first teamed up in 2002 when Gibbard contributed vocals to Tamborello’s Dntel project Life Is Full Of Possibilities. They adopted the name The Postal Service as a tribute to their means of producing songs. Tamborello would create the music tracks and mail them to Gibbard who would then construct the lyrics. Following the release of their debut Give Up in 2003, the duo was sent a cease and desist letter from the United States Postal Service, asking them to change their name as it was trademarked by the USPS. They were allowed to keep it, however, in exchange for contributing to promotional efforts. Though there are presently no plans for a second album, the duo recently re-released a special 10th anniversary deluxe edition of Give Up, including 2 new tracks and a bevy of covers. Learn more about The Postal Service at their Official Website, “Like” them on Facebook, and follow them on Twitter. Download “A Tattered Line Of String” from Give Up (Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition) below.
