It’s June and it’s hot which means it’s time for the music festival that brings 80,000 family members to a 700 acre field in Tenessee. Bonnaroo Music Festival is officially underway and for the 7th year in a row, I have plopped myself in the middle of the music madness.
Brad Holtz and I drove down late Thursday night and arrived just in time to catch Alabama Shakes perform in the “This” tent. Britney Howard has one of the most powerful, soulful voices of anyone in recent memory. She commands respect as she hypnotizes the crowd with her presence and the band is completely capable of bringing the instrumental melody to support her talents. Get ready, The Alabama Shakes perform at The Vogue (a sold out show) on July 31.
It’s nice to see the family I have missed over the past year. Not just my friends in the radio industry, but all the music loving “hippies” that call Manchester home for 4 days. We have the coveted passes for access to the greatest seats in the field and will take you with us wherever we go.
On the agenda for today for me (Brad and I usually split up to cover more ground) is Electric Guest, Michael Kiwanuka, Fitz & The Tantrums, Trampled By Turtles, Dawes and Radiohead…just to name a few. As I wander from the performance areas of What, Which, This, That, The Other (names of the stages), I will keep you in mind and pick out something special just for you. Hmmmm, do you think the Ben & Jerry’s will hold together for the next few days?
