Paul Simon Plans Graceland Tour

1 Comment 08 January 2012

Paul Simon appeared at IU Auditorium in November, but he already has plans brewing for his next tour. Simon has announced that he will be inviting his 1987 band to join him on the road to celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary of the landmark album, Graceland. The band’s tour will begin next year and will feature the South African vocal group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Along with the tour, a box set with a DVD documentary that chronicles the making the album will be released to coincide with the anniversary. Enjoy a clip of the band performing “You Can Call Me Al” below.

This pairing of Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo has huge historical significance, since blacks and whites were barely able to even be seen speaking to each other in S. Africa 25 years ago. I thought Simon deserved a Nobel Peace Prize for taking that leap of faith. I hope their tour comes to or close to Indy. I wouldn’t miss it for the world!
