The Decemberists are releasing a follow-up companion EP to their album The King is Dead, called Long Live the King.  Among other things, it includes a suprising – and pretty damned good - cover of a Garcia/Hunter song for you Grateful Dead fans (“Row Jimmy”), as well as a musical setting for a sonnet by the writer of The Divine Comedy, and a solo demo by head Decemberist Colin Meloy.  Unlike The King is Dead, barring one song at the beginning with a pair of vocalists on loan from elsewhere, this EP has no guest appearances, just pure Decemberists this time out.

Long Live the King comes out on November 1st, but you can get an early taste of it on this week’s OverEasy, 7 to 11am AND pm this Sunday, on 92.3 WTTS.

Also, some good news for Decemberists keyboardist Jenny Conlee, here.
