After more than three decades as a band, R.E.M. have decided to call it quits in a statment from earlier this morning:
“To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.” R.E.M.
R.E.M. released 15 albums during their career, including Murmur, Reckoning, Document, Out of Time and Automatic for the People. The band’s most recent album, Collapse Into Now, was released last in March.

This makes me so sad!I’m only seventeen, so I’ve not been their fan for as long as possible, but I do love R.E.M. and I will continue loving their past works.
Well one thing I’ve learned in my almost 48 years is nothing lasts forever but I will always love their music. Tho it HAS forever left it’s imprint and remnant of itself on my heart.
I wish them nothing but the best and hope to hear something from some one(s) of them in the future!!
“That’s great starts with an earth quake…”
I digress…

The “little band that could” will be missed! Glad I got to see them before Bill Berry left. Here they are doing a Jimmy Webb cover that makes a great swan song: Witchita Lineman.

GREAT GROUP!!! Attended several concerts and can tell you that they sounded better on the radio than in person. Have already heard talks of a REUNION tour….LOL
Grew up with ‘em back in the 80s and was a huge fan. But they changed a lot, maybe took themselves or their roles as “rock stars” too seriously (or maybe just Michael Stipe did) in the early 90s and I never made the transition with them. And their last radio song (last year?) made me sad because it was so redundant and boring – everything R.E.M. was not when they were still “alternative”. So, really, I’m glad they’re bowing out now with plenty of dignity left. Thank you for the memories and some fantastic music, gentlemen. I wish you nothing but the best and am thankful for your gifts you shared with us all!
