Record Store Day 2011 figures were at an all time high this year with releases by Foo Fighters and Gorillaz topping sales figures.
According to NME and the Official Charts Company, sales of physical singles through independent record stores were more than double last year’s total and album sales were up 20 per cent.
Foo Fighters’ covers album, Medium Rare, was the most popular vinyl album closely followed by Gorillaz‘, The Fall, album.
As far as single sales, Queen’s 7 inch vinyl re-issue of “Keep Yourself Alive“ and Radiohead’s previously unreleased tracks “Supercollider” and “The Butcher” (released in the U.K.) were also very popular.
Around 180 stores took part in this year’s Record Store Day on April 16 and 250 exclusive releases were made available in participating stores.
