“Waterloo Sunset”…”Tired of Waiting for You”…”Days”…just a few of many great songs performed by the Kinks to come from the pen of one Raymond Douglas Davies. Sometimes considered one of the lesser lights of the British Invasion, being overshadowed by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, quite often the Kinks were much more creative than their counterparts in the rock field, taking concept albums to new heights. Davies’ songwriting can be unblinkingly nostalgic, and yet sometimes unsentimental, often in the same song. Now Davies has joined forces with contemporaries like Jackson Browne and newer musical lights like Spoon, Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody and Mumford & Sons to recast his own work, in the album See My Friends.
