Dire Straits released “Money for Nothing” in 1985. Over twenty years later, one listener in Newfoundland finally listened to the words and was not happy. A complaint to the station airing the song regarding a specific line in the tune has prompted The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council to rule the song “too offensive” for Canadian radio. Naturally, many stations have protested the ruling by airing the original version of the song on repeat for an hour.
