WTTS Emerging Artist Concert Series

10 Comments 22 August 2010

Musical discovery. It’s one of the reasons we love live music. And that’s why we were proud to present the WTTS Emerging Artist Concert Series, sponsored by Upland Brewing. August 11th through early October, we’ll presented free performances for 92-3 VIPs at Creation Café on the Canal in downtown Indy.

The WTTS Emerging Artist Concert Series included:

Greg Laswell — August 11

Greg blew us away with his July session in Studio 92, so we’re really happy to see him again so soon. The California native has been working in bands and as a solo artist for over ten years, but with his music showing up on Grey’s Anatomy recently, it looks like a lot of people are about to find out what San Diego has known for a while. Greg Laswell makes great music.

Dave Barnes — August 25

Dave is from the American South and currently lives in Nashville. He came to Music City with the hope of making a living writing songs for other musicians, but the praise from artists like Marc Cohn and Bonnie Raitt helped him land gigs opening for John Mayer among others. Now that he’s taken the spotlight, we think you’ll agree it’s where he belongs.

Robert Francis — September 8

He’s 21-years-old, but Robert writes like an old soul. Maybe it’s because he grew up surrounded by music of all kinds. Robert’s father is a classical music producer and sheet music collector. Ry Cooder is a friend of the family, so it’s hardly a surprise that on his first album he was compared to a young Townes Van Zandt. Robert teamed with Grammy-winning producer D. Sardy for his latest and both agreed that his sound is pure old-school rock.

Griffin House — September 29

Griffin discovered his love of being on stage in high school drama class. The Ohio native’s love of sports was his ticket to college, though. Ohio State offered Griffin a golf scholarship. Thing is, he turned it down in favor of pursuing a career as a singer/songwriter with nothing standing in his way but the fact he didn’t play the guitar and had never written a song. Clearly that wasn’t much of an obstacle for Griffin because ten years later his music is meeting with widespread acclaim.

Truth and Salvage Company — October 6

The six guys behind Truth & Salvage Co. come from all over the country and individually have collaborated with musicians ranging from Ben Folds to Jack Johnson to My Morning Jacket. One thing or another brought them all to Los Angeles where they met in late night jam sessions and discovered a chemistry that’s undeniable. Black Crowes’ frontman Chris Robinson recognized it and produced Truth & Salvage Co.’s debut album. The truth of the matter is, their sound is best appreciated as their loyal and growing fan base loves it best. Live.

The Greg Laswell (with Cary Brothers) show in July at Radio Radio was fantastic – so glad to see WTTS is inviting him back so soon!

Each event will start at 6 with the musicians taking the stage around 7, Craig.

  6. Jay says:

Thanks for the time, but do we have to win in order to be able to attend, I work nights and this is-for a change- an event I can actually attend! Yeah!

  7. kelly says:

You do have to win, but it’s a pretty good-sized space, so just be sure to get your name in as soon as we’re taking entries for the show you want to see!

  8. Michael says:

Have names already been drawn for the Laswell performance?

Just checking to see if I still have a chance to attend. Was fortunate to see him in town last month and in Columbus, OH in June. Solid every time!

    Thanks!

  9. Stacy says:

How soon will we be able to register for the Truth and Salvage Co concert? I love these guys so much and would hate to miss them while they are in town.

  10. kelly says:

You can register for each concert the day after the previous one, Stacy. So registration for Truth and Salvage ought to go live on September 30th.
